Frequently Asked Questions Q. Will counselling change me? A. Counselling helps you to get a perspective on your life and your behaviour. It is a place to explore in a neutral environment. As a result, you may see things differently and act differently. Q. Counselling seems to be a maze of styles and approaches. How do I know what will work best with me? A. Sometimes your doctor or other professional may recommend a certain approach. It is important to find what works best for you by discussing the options with your therapist at the first assessment session. Very often, what is even more important is the working relationship you build with your therapist/counsellor. Q. What can I do if I am unhappy with my progress? A. You may find that you feel you are not making progress in the work we do together. If this is the case it is very important to raise these concerns in the session and we can both work to improve the situation. If you still feel unhappy, I can refer you to other practitioners who may work differently. Q. How often and how long do I need to come? A. At the initial assessment, we will discuss what approach may suit you and depending on the focus of your issues, we can come to an agreement about the length of time you may need to attend depending on what you want to achieve. Q. Can I be sure that the sessions are confidential? A. No information will be given without your consent. I am bound by the ethical code of the British Psychological Society.
